- detokenizer
- The detokenizers produce the target files for the project. The tokenizers placed tokens in the file skeletons that are used by the detokenizers to replace the strings and produce the target files.

- DML

- fix report
- Includes any notices of fixes made to a previous translation request package caused by localization bugs in the translation. These fixes should be considered as input for modifications to the tool kit or the process so they do not happen again.

- leverage
- Leverage is applying previously approved translations to the current set of extracted strings. The previously approved translations may be contained in a Translation Memory (TM) file that was created during a previous translation of the project. Using it should help to reduce the amount of translation needed in this iteration of the project.

- locale
- The locale is made up of a code for the language and a code for the country. The language code is a valid ISO Language Code. The country code is a valid ISO Country Code. See the Locale Guide for a full description of locales.

- localized files
- See target files.

- manifest
- Includes project control information for the project. This information is especially useful to the project manager and will show the size and effort required for the project. The manifest should include a list of all the source files being localized and the statistics to indicate how big the project is including the word counts for words leveraged from the translation memory, words that are not to be translated, and words left to be translated.

- National Language Support.

- Project Control File
- This file is used in the tool kit and the process to control when and what to do for each source file in the project. Information as to the name of the source file, what type of file it is, whether to translate it or not, and how to form the target file path and name must be included in the Project Control File. A more complete description of the Project Control File is located here.

- reference materials
- Can include any file that may be useful to the translator to aid in translation of the strings for the product. This may include TMs, glossaries, style guides, ...

- smoke test
- A test case adequate to see if the localized product is at least able to start.

- source files
- The product files that contain some translatable information. These files are usually found in and copied from the source code control system used by the product developers. The source files should be limited to only those files that contain some translatable information so that the number of files to manage in the localization project is not as large.

- string extract file
- A string extract file is in XLIFF format and contains the strings to be translated and the skeleton of the source file with tokens marking the positions of the extracted strings.

- The statements used to find data in a database and produce a desired output.

- T9N
- Translation.

- target files
- The product files that have been translated and prepared for use in the localized product. The target files usually are placed in directories under the NLS/targetLanguage directory in the product directory structure. The targetLanguage directory name is usually the language code for the target locale (e.g., ja for Japanese, it for Italian, ...). See the Locale Guide for a full description of locales and a list of language codes.

- tokenizer
- The tokenizers produce the string extract files that contain the extracted strings that need translation.

- translation memory
- A file that contains pairings of strings with their approved translations. Usually a database file of some kind.

- translation request package
- The translation request package contains all the files (generally the extracted string files) that need to be translated plus the reference materials needed by the translator. If a commercial tool is being used to manage the translation memory or aid in translation then any files required by that tool should be included in the translation request package.
